Our Services As part of our commitment to provide you with the very highest standard of eye care we include Retinal imaging as standard in our comprehensive eye examinations. A state of the art Digital retinal camera is used to capture photographic images of the back of your eyes. This technique is one of the most accurate and advanced ways of screening for many different eye diseases as it allows us to inspect the retina in far more detail compared to conventional methods which were previously relied on. The detection of certain such conditions include Glaucoma, Diabetes, Hypertension and Age related Macular Degeneration to name a few can be made easily and earlier thus limiting any unnecessary loss of vision.
The optometrist takes time to show and explain the images taken of the back of your eyes to you as we feel this will give you a better understanding of the health of your eyes. The images taken are stored and can be recalled, therefore enabling the optometrist to compare these from one visit to the next, allowing even the most subtle changes to be detected aiding in early diagnosis.

Eye Care Dry eyes occur when the eyes either don't make enough tears, or the quality of the tears produced is reduced, which means the tears can evaporate rapidly from the surface of the eye, allowing the eye to dry. Often, the reduced tear quality is a result of blockage or inflammation of the oil glands within the lid margin. When the surface of the eyes dry out, the eyes become inflamed. They appear to be red, and the whites of the eyes can appear to be pink and swollen. Normally, the eyes become very irritable. When seen on the microscope, using a fluorescent dye called flourescein and a special cobalt blue light, the denuded surface areas can be seen as green specks on the surface of the eye.

FAQs

The average eye exam appointment in the UK is 20 minutes in length. While that may provide enough time for an optometrist to examine your eyes, it allows very little time for discussion and personalisation to your individual requirements.
Specs Direct Opticians is proud to host the World’s Greatest Eyewear brands locally. There is no difference in walking the streets of Milan for Prada, The Streets of New York for Tiffany when you can find the world’s greatest eyewear designers on Barnet High Street. We view the collections three times a year to source the latest trend.
There are a lot of people who hate shopping for glasses and it’s mainly because they find the process of choosing new glasses painful, difficult and time consuming. Thankfully, at Specs Direct Opticians there is a more sophisticated way to choose eyewear than just trying frames at random.
If you need to wear glasses then chances are you want to look good, feel confident and make the right impression with your glasses. Unfortunately, most opticians see glasses as just a functional requirement and it’s clear they do not understand the style issue. If you want to look your best in your eyewear then it’s essential that you get advice from someone who actually has a good sense of style.
Do They Have A Great Reputation? Does the opticians have many testimonials and five-star reviews from happy customers? If they do have a few it is reassuring. But there is a big difference between having a handful of generic testimonials versus having a huge quantity of sincere and enthusiastic testimonials.
